## Rams Face Secondary Scramble, Eye Top Cornerback in 2026

The Los Angeles Rams' defense needs attention, and the clock is ticking.  With several key players in their secondary heading into the final year of their contracts, including safeties Quentin Lake and Kamren Curl, and cornerbacks Ahkello Witherspoon, Cobie Durant, and Derion Kendrick,  the 2026 draft and free agency could be make-or-break for Los Angeles.

"The Rams will likely target that position in the 2026 draft and/or free agency," writes Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine, pointing to a potential big-name acquisition: DaRon Bland of the Dallas Cowboys.

While the Rams were reportedly interested in acquiring Jalen Ramsey this year, their limited cap space ($19.5 million) presented a significant obstacle.  However, things look brighter for 2026. The Rams currently hold the fourth-highest projected cap space, giving them flexibility to pursue top talent.

Bland's future with Dallas is uncertain. The Cowboys haven't extended him, and with Trevon Diggs already on their roster and Micah Parsons requesting a trade, Bland could hit free agency.

His track record speaks for itself:  14 interceptions in his first 32 games, including a league-leading nine in 2023, solidifying his spot as a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro selection.  Though a foot injury sidelined him for the start of the 2024 season, he remains a force to be reckoned with, finishing the year with five defended passes, a forced fumble, and a recovered fumble.

Landing Bland won't come cheap. Recent contracts for Sauce Gardner and Derek Stingley Jr., worth $30 million annually, set the bar high. But for the Rams, securing a cornerback of Bland's caliber might mean breaking the bank – or risking losing out on their top draft picks.

##   Baker Embraces Special Teams Role, Hoping To Earn Patriots Roster Spot

Javon Baker isn't just hoping to make the New England Patriots' 53-man roster - he's willing to do whatever it takes. The second-year wide receiver surprised some by playing special teams in last Friday's preseason opener,  securing two tackles and catching the eye of coach Mike Vrabel.

**A Chance To Shine**

With Marcellas Dial Jr. sidelined, there's a void on special teams that Baker could potentially fill. This unexpected move could significantly increase his chances of making the team, especially considering the Patriots currently have 11 receivers vying for limited spots.

“If they put me out there and if they say go to special teams, go to kicker, whatever — I’ll do what they want me to do,” Baker told reporters on Sunday.

**Beyond Special Teams:**

While special teams could be his ticket to staying on the roster, Baker has shown promise as a receiver in training camp, making plays and hinting at his explosive potential on offense.  His versatility may ultimately prove key to his development at the next level.

## Rookie QB Jaxson Dart Delivers 'Mid' Debut, Finds Solace in Mom's Embrace

Dart shined in his first NFL preseason game, completing 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills. But despite a solid performance, the young quarterback called it "mid" and believes he could have done more.


**A Coach's Confidence**
Head coach Brian Daboll praised Dart after the game, calling him "efficient, effective, aggressive, confident in the pocket." 

"He's a confident young player," Daboll continued. "He's improved since he's been here. Still have a long way to go, but I enjoy working with him."

**Third Down Blues and 'Crunch-Time' Situations**
While Dart displayed promise, he expressed frustration over missed third downs and the inability to capitalize in crucial moments. 

"I just felt like the only reason that we stopped ourselves from scoring touchdowns were just some of those third downs and not converting," he said. "And I feel like personally, I'm really hard on myself. So, in those moments, like I want to capitalize on that. Those possessions in those crunch-time situations really determine the game."


**A Heartfelt Postgame Moment**

After the game, Dart shared an emotional embrace with his mother, Kara Dart, captured in a video that quickly went viral.  The heartwarming moment comes after fans were captivated by Kara's joy during the 2025 NFL draft when the Giants selected Jaxson No. 25 overall.

Dart was also joined by fellow quarterback Tommy DeVito and shared pictures with his family.



**Family Man, Lucky Necklace**

Known for his close-knit family, Dart once stole a heart necklace from his sister, attributing it to good luck.

"So, my little sister had it, it was hers," he explained in May. "It was before our bowl game and as I was leaving the house over Christmas -- a little break before the bowl game -- and just saw it in her room. And I was like, you know what, I kind of like it."

Dart wasn't wearing the necklace during his postgame press conference but plans to return it to his routine. "Shoot, I forgot to wear it. But I'm going to put that back in the routine for sure," he said.

## Rams Roll in Preseason Opener, Roster Projections Shift

The Los Angeles Rams kicked off their preseason with a resounding 31-21 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Stetson Bennett impressed at quarterback, but it was the running backs who truly stole the show. Blake Corum, Jarquez Hunter, and Cody Schrader all shined in the win.

His impressive performance in Week 1 (five carries, 59 yards, and a receiving touchdown) only strengthens his case.

Allen’s starting role and limited snaps suggest he's in a good position. He appears safe as the fourth tight end on the roster for now.

A notable shift here:  Quessenberry out, Lampkin in. Despite being a veteran, Quessenberry played in Week 1 while McClendon Jr. sat out. This indicates McClendon is ahead on the depth chart. The Rams also don't need three backup tackles, especially with Humphries seemingly secure as the left tackle backup. Lampkin’s performance in Week 1 – earning high marks from PFF –  demonstrates he can hold his own at center despite his size. McMahon's injury and the offensive line depth could put Leveston at risk.

Murchison's spot on the roster is still uncertain.  While he has work to do, his inclusion for now seems likely, considering how thin the defensive line depth currently appears. The other five players are strong contenders for the 53-man roster.

Cut: Brennan Jackson, Nick Hampton, Josh Pearcy, Jamil Muhammad

Jackson and Hampton's quiet offseason performances continued into Week 1. They played significant snaps compared to Thomas, who only saw action for six plays after starting the game. This suggests Thomas is ahead of them in the competition.

**Inside Linebacker (4)**

Cut: Shaun Dolac, Elias Neal, Tony Fields II

Despite Dolac’s strong Week 1 performance, his chances might be limited if Reeder secures a spot on the roster. Reeder's inactivity despite being healthy in Week 1 could indicate he's already earned a place on the team.

## A Look at No. 27: The Saints' History With a Key Jersey

The countdown is on: Just 27 days remain until the New Orleans Saints kick off their season against the Arizona Cardinals. Isaac Yiadom, back in the black and gold after a year with the San Francisco 49ers, is sporting No. 27, a number he wore during his first stint in New Orleans. He's poised to play a key role in the team's revamped secondary.

But Yiadom isn't the first to wear this particular jersey.  

**A Legacy of Talent in No. 27**

From Walter "Flea" Roberts, who burst onto the scene as one of the Saints' first stars, to Malcolm Jenkins, a future Hall-of-Famer and Super Bowl champion, No. 27 has been donned by a diverse group of talented players.  

Roberts, though only playing one season (13 games) in New Orleans, left an indelible mark. He racked up 384 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, including a 96-yard play that still ranks second longest in franchise history. His highlight reel moment came against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he scored on a kickoff return, fumble return, and reception – all within five touches – sealing a historic 31-24 victory, the Saints' first ever win.

Rod McNeill became the first drafted player to wear No. 27 in 1974.  He spent two seasons as a backup running back, racking up 498 total yards and 5 touchdowns. Ray Brown followed McNeill, recording 7 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries during his three-year stint.

**The Defensive Legacy**

Antonio Gibson's four years wearing No. 27 saw him contribute to the legendary "Dome Patrol" units of the late 1980s and early 1990s. He recorded 3 interceptions in mostly backup and special teams roles. Reggie Jones, another defensive back who wore No. 27 from 1991-1994, contributed 6 interceptions during his four years with the team.

**Offensive Contributions Rise**

Aaron Stecker broke through as a significant offensive contributor for the Saints in No. 27. From 2004 to 2008, he primarily served as a fullback, but amassed 2,017 yards and 8 touchdowns. He is one of only two offensive players who have made a meaningful impact wearing No. 27 for the Saints. Dwayne Washington wore No. 27 during his four years with New Orleans, contributing on both offense and special teams.

**Malcolm Jenkins: A Legend in Black and Gold**

Malcolm Jenkins' two separate stints with the Saints, both while wearing No. 27, solidified him as a franchise legend. He holds the record for most games played in No. 27 (103) and is considered one of the best safeties in Saints history. Drafted 14th overall in 2009, Jenkins was instrumental in the Saints' Super Bowl XLIV victory as a rookie and continued to be a defensive leader throughout his seven seasons with the team. He recorded 10 interceptions (returning 3 for touchdowns), forced 8 fumbles (recovering 5, returning one for a touchdown), and consistently ranked among the team leaders in tackles.

**A New Chapter: Isaac Yiadom's Return**

Jenkins' legacy continues to inspire players like Alontae Taylor, Shemar Jean-Charles, and now Isaac Yiadom. Yiadom's 2023 performance, where he emerged as a key player due to injuries, earned him the recognition of fans and analysts alike.  He broke up 14 passes, recorded an interception, and held opposing quarterbacks to under a 49% completion rate when targeted. 

Iyadom returned to the Saints this offseason on a three-year contract and is expected to be a starting cornerback in 2025. He carries the weight of tradition with him, ready to add his own chapter to the legacy of No. 27 for the New Orleans Saints.

## Is It Worth It, Jerry?

Every year around training camp, a familiar drama unfolds in Dallas: Jerry Jones finds himself at the center of another high-profile contract negotiation, often involving star players looking for big paydays or holding out. The Cowboys owner plays hardball, dropping headline-grabbing quotes that can be interpreted as demeaning to his own players.  

But is this strategy truly effective? Has it aged well after nearly three decades without a Super Bowl appearance? 

By the numbers, Jerry has a decent track record. CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott eventually signed lucrative extensions despite tense standoffs. Emmitt Smith, Ezekiel Elliott, and other star players ultimately got their big contracts.  

However, beyond simply getting players to sign on the dotted line, three larger issues emerge.


**1. Overspending and Roster Imbalance:** 

Jones' willingness to offer massive contracts has led to some questionable spending decisions. Prescott’s deal makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history, despite not winning a Super Bowl. CeeDee Lamb is now one of the top three highest-paid receivers in the league at $34 million a year. The Elliott contract, signed just a few years ago, proved to be a bust and ultimately ended prematurely.

This "top-heavy" spending model creates significant cap issues. The Cowboys struggle with depth and role players because resources are poured into a handful of stars. It’s a risky strategy that can backfire in the long run.  


**2. A Culture of Friction:** 

Jones' negotiation tactics often involve public jabs at his own players, creating unnecessary tension and drama. He has belittled players like Elliott with comments like "Zeke who?" during contract disputes. Last year, he downplayed CeeDee Lamb’s star power compared to other players while negotiating his extension.


This constant tension can negatively impact the locker room, breeding distrust between players and management. It also distracts from the on-field focus, potentially costing the team wins.

**3. A Dangerous Cycle:** 

The annual "Game of Chicken" between Jones and his star players sets a dangerous precedent.  It raises questions about loyalty and trust within the organization.


Does this adversarial approach truly benefit the Cowboys? Could it be contributing to their lack of success in recent years?

Ultimately, the question remains: Was it worth it, Jerry? The public insults, the missed workouts, the unnecessary drama – all for a contract that was likely going to happen anyway? This cycle of tension and high-stakes negotiations needs a serious re-evaluation.

## Eagles Star Guard Out After Knee Injury

Philadelphia's Pro Bowl guard, Landon Dickerson, left practice early Friday with a suspected knee injury and is scheduled for an MRI Monday. The setback could sideline him for the upcoming joint practices with the Browns later this week. 

Dickerson was seen being carted off the field after suffering the injury during an open stadium practice. The severity of the injury remains unclear pending the MRI results.  

**Pro Bowl Career on Hold?**
Dickerson's potential absence is a blow to the Eagles, as he's been a cornerstone of their offensive line. He tied Brandon Brooks for the most Pro Bowl selections in team history by an offensive guard, earning the honor three times in his first four seasons. 

**Possible Replacements Step Up**


With Dickerson sidelined, Philadelphia could turn to Kenyon Green, who has been playing as the second-team left guard during training camp. Matt Pryor and Trevor Keegan are also potential options to fill the void.

## Lions' Veteran Receiver Faces Uncertain Future

Detroit wide receiver Tim Patrick hoped to return for another season with the Lions after signing a one-year deal this offseason. But his future in Detroit is now uncertain, as Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has named him a potential trade candidate. 

The Writing on the Wall

The Lions drafted Isaac TeSlaa in the third round, trading three third-round picks to move up and secure the promising young receiver. Early reports from training camp have been positive about TeSlaa, who backed that up with a standout performance in the Hall of Fame game, leading all receivers with 46 yards on two catches.

A Tough Competition

The Pittsburgh Steelers' active offseason isn't slowing down. With a flurry of major contracts handed out this year, now veteran stars Cameron Heyward and Chris Boswell are reportedly seeking new deals. 

**Heyward Holds Out**

ESPN insider Adam Schefter reports that Heyward has been quietly campaigning for an extension. The four-time All-Pro hasn't practiced yet this summer, focusing instead on private negotiations with the organization. He's set to earn $14.75 million this season, with $13.45 million already earned as a roster bonus in March. By 2026, his current contract year, Heyward would make $14.5 million.

But Heyward's value seems to be outpacing his current deal. The market for defensive tackles has exploded in recent years; the top four contracts were signed ahead of last season, and the top 12 have been restructured in the past two years. Currently, Heyward's contract ranks 36th among all defensive linemen and 18th among defensive tackles.

At 36 years old, Heyward continues to dominate. He earned his most recent All-Pro nod last season, his 14th year with the Steelers.  He's the first defensive lineman over 35 to earn All-Pro status since Bruce Smith in 1998.

**Boswell Seeks Parity With AFC North Counterparts**

Chris Boswell, Pittsburgh's kicker for the past decade, is also seeking a new deal. Despite being named First Team All-Pro last season, he's currently the lowest-paid kicker in the AFC North behind the Bengals' Evan McPherson, the Browns' Dustin Hopkins, and the Ravens' Justin Tucker.

Back in 2022, Boswell signed his current four-year, $20 million contract ($5 million APY), making him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL at the time, surpassing Tucker.  Now going into 2025, he sits as the 10th highest-paid kicker.

**A Trend of Big Spending in Pittsburgh?**

The Steelers have made a habit of handing out big contracts this offseason. Receiver DK Metcalf signed for four years, $132 million; quarterback Aaron Rodgers inked a $13 million deal for this year; and edge rusher T.J. Watt became the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history with his three-year, $123 million extension. Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith were also acquired in a trade, and their contracts were restructured.


Heyward and Boswell could be the next Steelers captains to earn a pay raise before this landmark offseason is over.

## Rookie-Led Texans Kick Off Preseason Against McCarthy and the Vikings

The Houston Texans, armed with a bevy of new rookies including offensive tackle Tay Ersery and wide receivers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, will open their preseason Saturday afternoon against the Minnesota Vikings. 

While Houston isn't planning on starting quarterback C.J. Stroud, former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy is expected to lead the Vikings offense. The Michigan product holds immense potential but missed his entire rookie season due to a torn meniscus, allowing Sam Darnold to shine under Kevin O'Connell's offensive scheme.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed that younger starters will see action in Saturday's game. This means we can expect Ersery (projected starting right tackle), Noel (battling for first-team reps in the slot), and Higgins (newcomer vying for playing time) to be on display. 

"Everybody’s kind of on their own plan," Ryans stated. "We'll have a handful of guys who won't see time at all. Then we'll have a certain group of guys who are limited. So, it's just a lot of different guys in different categories there."


Despite the lighter playing time for starters like Stroud and Will Anderson Jr., fans can still anticipate plenty of action from these top names.

When the Dallas Cowboys selected Texas running back Jaydon Blue in the fifth round, many focused on his blazing 4.39 speed and its potential impact on Brian Schottenheimer's offense.  Blue, at 5'9" and 196 lbs, isn't your typical bruising back. Many assumed he'd be a shifty runner who relies on agility and outside runs.

However, as training camp unfolds in Oxnard, Blue has emerged with a surprise: his willingness to run between the tackles.  

“Jaydon’s very patient, he’s a patient runner,” Cowboys running backs coach Derrick Foster said. “He's got a really good feel for it. Got natural instincts. Some of those traits that you really look for in a back. Once he sees that opening space, he’s not been afraid to stick it up inside in the hole and really try to lower his pads.”

Foster continued, "Now, we still got to work on that a little bit, but he’s really surprised me in terms of being able to run between the pads. That was one of the things that I really wanted to see, with his stature and his body build, could he do that? I think he’s done a really good job of displaying that ability to be able to run between the tackles.”

While Schottenheimer will likely lean on Javonte Williams, Hunter Luepke, or Phil Mafah for those inside runs due to their larger frames, Blue's newfound physicality adds another dimension to his game.  It provides valuable depth and a potential X-factor as he competes for a roster spot.


Preseason games will offer crucial insights into Blue's development. Though Schottenheimer has stated the Cowboys won’t reveal their schemes in preseason, Blue will have the opportunity to solidify his place as a key offensive contributor.

“Jaydon isn't just a one-trick pony,” Foster said. “He’s got multiple ways of running with the football and that only bodes well for Dallas’ run game in 2025.”

## Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones' Sexual Assault Trial Delayed Again

A sexual assault lawsuit against Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been delayed yet again, pushing back the case to an undetermined date. The trial was initially set for Monday in the 160th District Court in Dallas County after two previous postponements.  

**Third Delay in a Lengthy Legal Battle**


This marks the third time the trial has been rescheduled since it was first planned for March 18, 2024. It was initially pushed to March 3, 2025, before being delayed once more to Monday. A new trial date remains unannounced as of Friday afternoon.

The lawsuit stems from allegations made by a South Carolina woman who claims Jones “kissed her on the mouth and forcibly grabbed her without her consent” during a Cowboys home game on September 16, 2018.  She filed the suit in March 2020. 

**Affidavits Offer Contrasting Accounts**


Through legal filings, it has emerged that over a dozen figures within the Cowboys organization have submitted sworn affidavits regarding the events of September 16, 2018. Among those present in the Tom Landry Room on that day were Jones, DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyron Smith, Jason Garrett, Ezekiel Elliott, and Tyrone Crawford, among others.

Lawrence reportedly invited the alleged assault victim, known as J.G., to the game at the stadium that day with her son, who played high school football with the Cowboys defender. The affidavits from witnesses state they did not see Jones “touch anyone in a way that [they] believe was inappropriate or offensive.”


The woman is seeking damages for “severe emotional distress,” “psychological pain and suffering” and medical expenses.

**Jones Faces Other Challenges**

This legal battle comes as Jerry Jones, 82, who has owned the Cowboys since 1989, faces other challenges.  The 2025 season will mark his 37th year in the NFL. He is currently embroiled in a contract dispute with star outside linebacker Micah Parsons, who is seeking a long-term extension. Parsons officially requested a trade last Friday.


Despite this, Jones has reassured the media that Dallas has “no intention” of honoring Parsons’ trade request. However, he acknowledged Tuesday that he has not yet begun contract talks with Parsons’ representatives.

“We will work through it,” Jones said. “Or we won’t work through it.”
