Hundreds of boats, laden with hopeful anglers, set sail this morning, chasing the legendary white marlin and the life-changing cash prizes that come with it.  For weeks leading up to the tournament, excitement has been building at Harbour Island Marina where fans will gather to witness the spectacle unfold.

**A Battle for Billfish Supremacy**

This year's competition promises another thrilling showdown. Anglers will vie for top spots in six coveted categories: white marlin, blue marlin, tuna, dolphin, wahoo, and swordfish. Each angler dreams of landing the biggest qualifying fish, securing their place at the top of the leaderboard and etching their names into White Marlin Open history.

**Weather Delay Turns to Fishing Extravaganza**

Originally scheduled from Monday to Friday, the tournament has been extended to Sunday, August 10th, due to unpredictable offshore weather conditions. This unexpected bonus will give anglers two extra days to perfect their strategies and increase their chances of reeling in a champion catch.

This week marks a turning point for the Washington Commanders. Following two weeks of intense training camp, the team heads to Massachusetts on Wednesday for a joint practice session against the New England Patriots, culminating in a preseason opener on Friday night in Foxborough.  These crucial matchups provide fans and coaches alike with an opportunity to see which players will shine under pressure against opposing teams. While much of the initial 53-man roster may already be solidified, several key spots remain up for grabs based on performances during these joint practices and upcoming preseason games.

**Roster Projections: Changes Emerge as Camp Progresses**


 Two weeks ago, a 53-man roster projection was made just before the start of training camp. Now, with Week 1 of preseason upon us, another projection offers updated insights into potential team composition.

 **Quarterback Battle Heats Up:**

The quarterback position remains a focal point. While Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota seem poised to lead the team as the dynamic duo, Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman are locked in a tight battle for the third spot. Both players have demonstrated impressive skills during camp. Currently, it seems most logical to retain two quarterbacks and aim for Hartman's return to the practice squad.

**Running Back Depth Chart Takes Shape:** 


Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler appear as locks at the running back positions. Jacory Croskey-Merritt has emerged as a standout rookie, consistently earning praise from head coach Dan Quinn. Jeremy McNichols continues to impress with his versatility and all-around contributions. His reliability in pass protection makes him a valuable asset for the team.

**Wide Receiver Poses Exciting Possibilities:** 

Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel form a formidable 1-2 punch, potentially ranking among the NFL's best receiver duos. Noah Brown consistently performs well in his role. Jaylin Lane, a rookie from Virginia Tech, has been making waves during camp.  The Commanders remain optimistic about Luke McCaffrey’s potential for a breakout year. The final spot goes to Chris Moore, who consistently shines in practice and contributes on special teams.

 **Tight End Group Remains Consistent:** 


Zach Ertz and John Bates continue their strong partnership at tight end. Ben Sinnott has shown encouraging signs after a quiet rookie season. Another second-year player, Colson Yankoff, has excelled during camp, showcasing his offensive prowess and value on special teams.


**Offensive Line Undergoes Slight Adjustments:**

The offensive line has seen some adjustments. Sam Cosmi, while potentially capable of playing Week 1, is being cautiously managed by the team. Nate Herbig's surprise retirement necessitates a shift in strategy. The initial projection included Herbig and Michael Deiter on the roster. Now, Laremy Tunsil, Brandon Coleman, Tyler Biadasz, Andrew Wylie, Nick Allegretti, Josh Conerly Jr., Trent Scott, Chris Paul, and Foster Sarell make up the nine-man unit. Sarell’s versatility at both guard and tackle positions benefits his chances, while Chris Paul has outshined Deiter in camp performances.

**Defensive Depth Stands Out:**


The defensive line boasts a formidable group led by Von Miller. While age may slightly impact his performance, he remains a significant force. Dorance Armstrong delivered a solid season last year with expectations for even greater contributions in 2024. Clelin Ferrell, Jacob Martin, and Deatrich Wise provide reliable veteran presence.  Martin has been impressive as a pass rusher during camp, while Wise continues to excel. Javontae Jean-Baptiste edges out Jalyn Holmes due to his youth, length, and athleticism for the final spot on the roster. Holmes may still find a place on the team.



**Defensive Line Packs a Punch:**

Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw have dominated throughout training camp.  Kinlaw’s signing, previously met with some skepticism, is now looking like a shrewd move by General Manager Adam Peters.  Kinlaw's size and powerful hands create a formidable presence alongside Payne. The duo has the potential to surpass even the expectations placed upon Payne and Jonathan Allen in previous seasons. Washington remains confident in Jer'Zhan Newton’s potential for a breakout year, while Eddie Goldman secures the final spot over Sheldon Day due to his effectiveness as a run-stuffer.

**Linebacker Unit Solidly Established:**



Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu lead the linebacker corps, complemented by rising star Jordan Magee. Magee has impressed both Wagner and several Washington coaches. Nick Bellore is dedicated solely to special teams duties, while Kain Medrano showcases his potential with flashes of brilliance. His size and speed are particularly noticeable, potentially allowing him to play safety as well.  Medrano's contributions secure him a spot on the 53-man roster.

**Cornerback Room Impresses During Training Camp:**


Marshon Lattimore returns healthy, ready to reward Washington's faith in acquiring him through trade. Mike Sainristil has emerged as a standout player, earning potential MVP recognition so far. Trey Amos solidifies his place as a rookie with promising performances. The presence of Jonathan Jones and Noah Igbinoghene on the bench provides significant depth for the team. Undrafted rookie Car'Lin Vigers has also impressed during camp but appears destined for the practice squad.


 **Safety Positions Remain Unchanged:**



The safety position remains consistent, reflecting Dan Quinn's confidence in this group. Quan Martin and Will Harris are expected to start, while Tyler Owens has seen some action with the first-string unit. Percy Butler, Jeremy Reaves, and Owens all excel on special teams.



**Special Teams Unit Excels:**

Matt Gay, Tress Way, and Tyler Ott remain as the core special teams unit. Bellore could also be listed here due to his dedicated role on special teams. The kicking game appears to be in excellent shape with Gay and Way. Ott's consistent reliability is a valuable asset.

**Atlanta's Hurston Waldrep makes memorable debut at Bristol Motor Speedway, pitching 5 2/3 innings in a rain-delayed victory.**


A long drive couldn't deter Atlanta Braves rookie Hurston Waldrep from making history. The 23-year-old right-hander earned his first major league win Sunday in the unusual setting of Bristol Motor Speedway during the MLB Speedway Classic.

Waldrep's journey to the mound began with a five-hour road trip from Triple-A Gwinnett, Georgia, arriving just before game time after being called up the previous night. 

“Wake up at 4:45, got in the car a little after 5, drove here with my girlfriend. Got here 9:45 or so. Everything since then, it’s been nonstop,” Waldrep said, describing his whirlwind day. “Didn’t really have time to sit here and think about how it all happened. Nonetheless, grateful for it, happy to be here. It’s been an unbelievable day.”


The drive from Gwinnett County to Bristol is a staggering 250 miles – over 450 laps around the famed track itself.  Waldrep tried to catch some sleep during the journey but found it difficult.

“It was really breathtaking to walk out, see how they set everything up, see the field, and just hearing from the players how last night went,” he said of his arrival at the unique venue. “It was all around just awesome.”


**A Strong Debut on a Special Stage** 
Sunday's game marked Waldrep's first appearance in the majors this season.  He delivered a solid performance, allowing just one run and three hits across 5 2/3 innings. This followed his big league debut in 2024 where he started two games for the Braves.


"After I took him out, I was like, 'Everything we put you through today you’ve done your job,'" manager Brian Snitker said. "He’s made a lot of strides. I think his time in Triple-A has been really really good for him."

With Isaac and Jacob Zietz (General McLane) graduating after record-breaking seasons, the District 10 offensive player of the year title is wide open.  Who will step up and claim this coveted honor?

 **The Contenders:**

* **Ethan Engelmore, Sharon:** The quarterback threw for 1,618 yards and 19 touchdowns last fall, adding six rushing touchdowns for good measure.
* **Juelz Johnson, Farrell:** The senior running back rushed for 1,745 yards and a whopping 24 touchdowns. He also contributed 23 catches for 259 yards and two more scores.
* **Vinnie Feliciano, Mercyhurst Prep:**  This junior had a breakout sophomore season, leading District 10 in rushing with over 2,400 yards and 25 touchdowns.
* **Kelvin Morrison, Hickory:** Another Division I running back from Mercer County, Morrison ran for 1,422 yards and 21 touchdowns as a sophomore, also adding eight catches for 245 yards and four touchdowns.
* **Brett Kania, Cambridge Springs:** As a junior, Kania rushed for 1,543 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also chipping in nine catches for 99 yards and one touchdown.

 * **Xavier Zachrich, Reynolds:** Despite battling injuries last year, the quarterback threw for 592 yards and six touchdowns, while also rushing for 550 yards and seven touchdowns.
* **Jared Corwin, General McLane:** The Navy recruit hauled in 48 catches for 611 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior.
* **Justin Schell, Greenville:** This speedy wide receiver caught 40 passes for 879 yards and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore.

 * **Davin Friedman, Cathedral Prep:**  The quarterback threw for 1,323 yards and 18 touchdowns despite battling injuries throughout the season.
* **Blake Cook, Corry:** Cook had a breakout junior season as a wide receiver with 38 catches for 584 yards and 11 touchdowns.

 * **Paul Johnson, Erie:**  The quarterback was the backup last year at Erie High but has the potential to shine this season for the Royals.

## Scarlet Knights Face Heated Running Back Battle 

**PISCATAWAY –** Replacing a star like Kyle Monangai won't be easy for Rutgers football. Monangai, who rose from an underrecruited prospect to one of the program's most prolific rushers, is now making waves in training camp with the Chicago Bears after being drafted in the seventh round.  

But while the Scarlet Knights look to fill the void left by Monangai, coach Greg Schiano sees a bright spot: running back continues to be a powerhouse position for Rutgers. 

“I think we have a really good running back room,” Schiano said. “So it’s really going to be a matter of who wins the competition. It’s not always decided by the opening game.”


**A Deep Running Back Pool**
Rutgers returns a talented group, led by Antwan Raymond and Ja’shon Benjamin, both of whom impressed last season – Raymond as a true freshman.  Raymond finished with 457 rushing yards on 100 carries with eight touchdowns, while Benjamin had 19 carries for 100 yards with one score.

Edd Guerrier and Sam Brown are also returning, the latter looking to build on his previous success when healthy. The Scarlet Knights further bolstered their backfield by adding Florida Atlantic transfer CJ Campbell Jr., a dynamic veteran who's adept at catching passes as well. Last season, Campbell rushed for 844 yards and 11 touchdowns while also hauling in 40 catches for 466 yards and one TD. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Campbell brings valuable experience to the team after playing three seasons at Florida State before transferring to FAU.

“I’ve played a lot of football,” Campbell said. “Just knowing how to be a professional, going about things the right way and not get emotional about certain things whenever you get coached a certain way. Just leaning on the younger guys and talking to the younger guys about how to go about certain things.” 

Campbell's arrival has injected even more competition into the running back room. Despite his experience, Campbell is still battling for carries alongside Raymond, Benjamin, Guerrier, and Brown. Schiano emphasized that all the running backs will get equal opportunities to prove themselves during training camp.


**Antwan Raymond Embraces the Challenge**
Raymond is entering his second year with Rutgers after a unique path of reclassifying and joining the program early, skipping his senior year of high school. The experience gained in 2024 was invaluable for Raymond, who described reclassifying as “one of the best decisions I decided to make.”

“Totally different,” Raymond said about this training camp compared to last year. “I’ve grown a lot, I’ve matured a lot. I know the system more. I think I’m getting a lot better. It’s definitely night and day different. Just the way I prepare, I’m more adapted to the schedule, I’m more adapted to the scheme and the system. I think it’s definitely different.”


 **A Team Effort**
With weeks remaining until Rutgers' season opener against Ohio on August 28th, the competition for the starting running back position remains fierce.  But one thing is clear: this deep and talented group of running backs will ensure there's no drop-off in production from one player to the next. The Scarlet Knights may have to replace a star like Monangai, but they have the weapons to do it.


“I don’t look at myself as better than them, they don’t look at themselves as better than me,” Campbell said. “We’re all human beings, we’re all here to play ball and we all love each other,” Campbell said. “We all lean on each other and talk to each other.”

**Miami -** A scare shook the Miami Dolphins practice field Sunday as fullback Alec Ingold left many teammates and observers concerned after going down during a drill. 

Ingold was motionless on the field following the play, prompting immediate action from his colleagues and coaches. The situation sparked worry as several players dropped to their knees in prayer while medical trainers rushed to Ingold's side.

**Veteran Schultz Impressed by Second-Year Player's Transformation**

The Houston Texans tight end room is buzzing with excitement as training camp progresses. Veteran Dalton Schultz, entering his third season with the team, acknowledges a change in the dynamic, praising the remarkable growth of Cade Stover. 

“He’s grown a lot. Strength, speed, size, knowledge of the game, he looks way more comfortable," Schultz said Saturday. Texans general manager Nick Caserio echoed these sentiments earlier this month, stating that Stover was the most improved player from the offseason.   Stover's performance has sparked excitement among fans and analysts alike:


"One player #Texans fans would LOVE to see break out this year is tight end Cade Stover, who looks healthy entering Year 2," tweeted Cole Thompson (@MrColeThompson) in May. 

While Schultz faces the challenge of proving himself worthy of a new contract in 2026, Stover's rapid ascent has made the Texans tight end room one to watch as the season approaches.

Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense struggled despite significant roster and coaching changes. The hope was that new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith could breathe life into the unit, with front office support to put players in place for success. 

However,  the results were far from inspiring. The team ranked 16th in scoring and 23rd in total yards. Passing numbers were equally concerning, with a ranking of 27th in passing yards and 20th in passing touchdowns. Rushing efficiency wasn't much better, landing at 25th in the league for yards per carry.  At times, the offense appeared stagnant and predictable, seemingly unable to effectively utilize the middle of the field.

Wide receiver Scotty Miller offers a contrasting view. Following a recent training camp practice, he stated that Smith's offense is "constantly evolving" and praised his willingness to adapt to players. 


 This statement stands in stark contrast to last season's performance.

The AFC North is fiercely competitive, and the Steelers' offensive struggles from last season simply won't cut it. Miller's optimism may be warranted, but only time will tell if the offense can truly evolve into a formidable force. ## Raiders Make Roster Shakeup After Mock Game Insights

**Seattle, WA -** Head coach Pete Carroll declared the Raiders' mock game a valuable learning experience, shedding light on potential roster decisions. The team acted quickly following the scrimmage, releasing undrafted rookie tight end Pat Conroy and wide receiver Kyle Phillips.  In their place, Seattle signed wide receiver Kawaan Baker and tight end Albert Okwuegbunam.

Baker, a former seventh-round pick by the New Orleans Saints, brings prior NFL experience to the table. He was drafted in 2021 and appeared in two games as a rookie, solely contributing on special teams. However, his career was subsequently interrupted due to a six-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Since then, Baker has bounced between various team rosters and practice squads but hasn't played in an official game.

Okwuegbunam, a fourth-round selection by the Denver Broncos in the 2020 NFL Draft, enters his fifth season in the league. After three seasons with the Broncos, he spent last year appearing in four games for the Philadelphia Eagles.
