Bounced Cheques Plummet in Morocco: Amnesty Program Drives Settlement Surge

Casablanca – Bank Al-Maghrib reports a significant drop in cheque payment incidents during 2024, signaling a positive shift in financial stability. The Central Cheque Payment Incident Registry recorded 487,613 cases, representing a 4.7 percent decline compared to the previous year.

Value of Incidents Down Sharply

The total value of these incidents also fell to 16.1 billion dirhams, a 4 percent decrease from the previous year. This downward trend is attributed in part to an amnesty program that encouraged individuals and businesses to settle outstanding cheque payments.
