The Buffalo Bills received a boost to their offense on Thursday with the activation of right tackle Spencer Brown from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. 

Brown, 27, had been sidelined due to a back issue. ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg reported that Brown was seen working off to the side for the first time on Thursday.  

A third-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Brown has established himself as a key contributor for the Bills, starting 56 games over the past four seasons.

Get ready for a blast from the past! Football fans will have a chance to see Brent Musburger back in action as he joins the broadcast team for tonight's Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. 

The game kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, with Musburger participating in both pregame coverage and calling the second half alongside Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth.  

Musburger will first appear on "Football Night in America" at 7 p.m. for an interview with Maria Taylor about his honor – he'll be receiving the Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Radio Television Award. He'll then move into the booth, a familiar setting for the broadcasting icon who needs no introduction to NFL fans.

Musburger is best known for hosting "The NFL Today" on CBS from 1975 to 1989, where his signature line, “You are looking live,” signaled the start of every Sunday’s games and became synonymous with NFL kickoff.  He has called hundreds of both NFL and college football games over his career, and tonight marks another exciting chapter in his legacy.

**Veteran Lineman Joins Roster, Rookie Waived Due to Injury**

The Minnesota Vikings strengthened their offensive line Thursday, signing veteran tackle Matt Nelson. To make room on the roster, rookie defensive lineman Alexander Williams was waived with an injury designation.

Nelson brings valuable experience to the Vikings after spending four seasons with the Detroit Lions (2020-23).  He appeared in 43 games, including 14 starts, during his time in Detroit. Nelson's best season came in 2021 when he started a career-high 11 games, nine of which were at right tackle.

Following the 2023 season, Nelson signed with the New York Giants but was ultimately waived during final roster cuts in August. 


Williams, an undrafted free agent who joined Minnesota in May, will now seek opportunities elsewhere due to his injury.

A unique challenge has been issued to swimming superstar Michael Phelps, and the Ravens are diving right in! 

In a viral video posted by cornerback Marlon Humphrey, teammates Ronnie Stanley, Kyle Hamilton, and Charlie Kolar revealed that one in three players on the team can't swim. They called upon Phelps to visit their training camp, check out their new recovery pool, and share his swimming expertise.

"I got yall!!! Let’s do it!!"  Phelps enthusiastically responded. 

Fourth-year tight end Kolar shared that he initially thought Humphrey would send the video directly to Phelps instead of posting it publicly, "I should have known better," he admitted.


The 40-year-old Phelps, hailing from Baltimore and widely recognized as the most decorated Olympian ever with 28 total medals (including 23 golds), has actively supported the Ravens in the past.  His mission to teach others how to swim extends beyond the pool. 

Since retiring from competition, Phelps has dedicated his efforts to drowning prevention through The Michael Phelps Foundation, which offers learn-to-swim classes designed to build self-esteem and promote wellness.

CEDRIC MULLINS put on another dazzling display in the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, showcasing his elite center field prowess and timely hitting. But despite Mullins’ heroics, the Orioles fell to the Blue Jays 9-8, spoiling what would have been their first four-game sweep in over a year.


"He's one of the best center fielders in the big leagues," said pitcher Dean Kremer. "It's a big comfort for us."

Mullins made multiple dazzling plays, including another signature “Superman” home run robbery and even laid down a bunt single reminiscent of his breakout season five years ago. 

“He makes it look so easy, man,” first baseman Ryan O’Hearn said. “Ced means a lot to the organization, a lot to the team. He's been here the longest. Been through a total rebuild and kind of seen all sides of it, which makes whatever happens the next few days tough.”


**Trade Deadline Speculation Looms Over Orioles Stars**

Those "next few days" are crucial as the trade deadline approaches. Mullins and O’Hearn, integral to the team's recent success, find themselves potentially playing their final games in Baltimore. They are both among the most speculated trade candidates with just over 24 hours until the deadline.


“In terms of that, it’s just good timing, I guess,” said Mullins, who  acknowledged the unique situation and focused on leaving everything on the field.

While the game's outcome is ultimately secondary to the looming roster changes, the Orioles still took three out of four against the division-leading Blue Jays, proving their competitive spirit despite a struggling bullpen.


**Young Core Steps Up Amidst Uncertainty**

Adley Rutschman started the game with a sacrifice fly and O’Hearn cleared the bases in a three-run first inning. Gunnar Henderson and Jordan Westburg also contributed key hits, highlighting the importance of the young core stepping up in this period of uncertainty. 

As veteran players potentially depart, the Orioles’ future rests on the shoulders of these younger stars.  
"As veterans leave, they have to take this thing over,” said interim manager Tony Mansolino. “Henderson and Rutschman are at the center of that."



**Bullpen Struggles Continue Despite Bright Spots**

Despite the offensive efforts, the bullpen ultimately faltered, allowing six runs over the final four innings. 
"I think he’s just got to figure out his pitch mix to left-handed hitters,” Mansolino said of struggling reliever Yennier Cano. “He's gonna get an opportunity to figure it out. There’s gonna be a lot of opportunity down there kind of as we stand right now.”

The Orioles (50-59) face the Chicago Cubs starting Friday, with their roster potentially looking drastically different by then.

##  49ers Bring Back Familiar Faces for Running Back Workout

**San Francisco hosts former players in search of depth at position.**

The San Francisco 49ers held a running back workout on Wednesday, inviting two familiar faces to showcase their skills. Former 49er Jeff Wilson and ex-Browns and Jaguars running back D'Ernest Johnson participated in the session. 

Wilson initially joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and remained with the team until his trade to the Miami Dolphins during the 2022 season.  While with the Dolphins, he compiled 141 carries for 637 yards and four touchdowns.

Johnson spent his first four seasons with the Cleveland Browns before playing the last two years in Jacksonville. Throughout his career, he has amassed 214 carries for 989 yards and three touchdowns.

The 49ers' current running back roster includes Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo, Patrick Taylor, and fifth-round draft pick Jordan James.

## Seahawks Extend Schneider Through 2031

**Contract Details Revealed Following Initial Report**

Earlier reports indicated John Schneider's extension with the Seattle Seahawks ran through 2030. However, the team announced Wednesday afternoon that the deal actually extends through 2031.


"The extension of General Manager John Schneider's contract is a testament to his 15-plus years of football leadership and success," said team owner Jody Allen in a statement. "I am confident that John will continue to deliver real results and a continued strong partnership with head coach Mike Macdonald that is already contributing to our winning culture on and off the field.”


Schneider, 54, has been Seattle's General Manager since 2010, working alongside Pete Carroll for his entire tenure until winter of 2024.  Following Carroll's departure, Schneider assumed the role of President of Football Operations for the Seahawks.

Shannon Sharpe will not be returning to ESPN, marking the end of his short but highly publicized run as a commentator on "First Take." The decision follows a legal settlement reached just two weeks ago with a former girlfriend who had accused him of rape. 

**Silence from ESPN as Sharpe's Future Remains Unclear**

The Athletic first reported the move on Wednesday, citing anonymous sources familiar with the situation.  ESPN has declined to comment publicly and no official announcement has been made.  Sharpe, 57, last appeared on ESPN in late April, shortly after the lawsuit was filed in Nevada. At the time, he vehemently denied the accusations, calling them "false and disruptive," and expressed his expectation to return for NFL training camps.  

**Lawsuit Dismissed After Private Settlement**

The lawsuit, brought by a woman identified as Jane Doe, sought $50 million in damages for alleged "pain and suffering, psychological and emotional distress, mental anguish, embarrassment and humiliation." Sharpe characterized the claims as a "shakedown," maintaining that their sexual relationship had been consensual.

On July 18th, the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice following a private settlement. The woman's attorney, Tony Buzbee, confirmed the resolution on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed.” This dismissal prevents the same claim from being refiled in court. No criminal charges were filed against Sharpe.

**From Football Field to Media Icon**

A three-time Super Bowl champion and four-time All-Pro, Sharpe retired in 2003 as the NFL's all-time leader among tight ends in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.  Since leaving football, he has become a prominent figure in sports media, initially as an analyst for CBS and later as co-host of Fox Sports 1’s "Undisputed" alongside Skip Bayless.

Following his departure from FS1 in 2023, Sharpe joined "First Take" as a twice-weekly sparring partner for Stephen A Smith. He also hosts two popular podcasts, "Club Shay Shay" and "Nightcap with Ocho," the latter alongside former NFL receiver Chad Ochocinco. Both shows are currently distributed by The Volume, although that agreement is set to expire at the end of August.

**Podcast Deal Talks on Hold?**

According to Front Office Sports and The Athletic, Sharpe was in discussions for a significant podcasting deal – potentially worth up to $100 million – before the lawsuit came to light. The status of those negotiations remains uncertain.
