49ers Bring Back Familiar Faces for Running Back Workout

San Francisco hosts former players in search of depth at position.

The San Francisco 49ers held a running back workout on Wednesday, inviting two familiar faces to showcase their skills. Former 49er Jeff Wilson and ex-Browns and Jaguars running back D'Ernest Johnson participated in the session.

Wilson initially joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and remained with the team until his trade to the Miami Dolphins during the 2022 season. While with the Dolphins, he compiled 141 carries for 637 yards and four touchdowns.

Johnson spent his first four seasons with the Cleveland Browns before playing the last two years in Jacksonville. Throughout his career, he has amassed 214 carries for 989 yards and three touchdowns.

The 49ers' current running back roster includes Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo, Patrick Taylor, and fifth-round draft pick Jordan James.
