Tottenham Confirm ‘Brutal’ James Maddison Injury Ahead of UEFA Super Cup Against PSG
Maddison's Nightmare: Brutal Knee Injury Rocks Tottenham Ahead of UEFA Super Cup Clash
PSG vs. Spurs showdown looms large as key midfielder faces uncertain future.
The stage is set for a dazzling UEFA Super Cup clash between PSG and Tottenham Hotspur on August 13th, with the reigning treble winners facing off against a newly energized Spurs side eager to prove themselves. While both teams have been busy strengthening their squads, a significant blow has struck Tottenham just days before the highly anticipated showdown.
Midfielder's Second Knee Injury Casts Shadow Over Super Cup Hopes
James Maddison, Tottenham’s star midfielder, suffered a knee injury during his team's 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Sunday at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. The setback is particularly painful as it appears to be a recurrence of a previous knee injury sustained in a Europa League semi-final match last season.
"Sometimes life and football can be brutal but also sometimes very beautiful," said Tottenham manager Thomas Frank. "It was brutal what happened to Madders. It looks like a bad injury. We don’t know exactly the status of it. It didn’t look good."
Maddison, only recently recovered from his previous knee issue, came on as a substitute in the second half but lasted just ten minutes before going down off the ball after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka sent the ball out for a throw-in.
Tottenham Faces Double Blow: Son Also Set to Depart
Adding to Tottenham's woes, team captain Son Heung-min is reportedly on the verge of joining Major League Soccer side LAFC. The transfer fee has been agreed upon, and personal terms have also been settled with the MLS club.
With both Maddison and Son potentially sidelined for the Super Cup clash, PSG's already strong position as favorites has seemingly intensified.
