Romano: ‘New talks’ in coming days – United believe £100m ace is now ‘keen’ on Old Trafford move
Red Devils Set Sights on £100M Star
Manchester United are gearing up for renewed negotiations with Brighton for Carlos Baleba. Sources indicate 'new talks' will take place this week as the club believes the 21-year-old midfielder is now "keen" on a move to Old Trafford.
Agreement on personal terms is expected to be relatively smooth, according to Fabrizio Romano. However, securing Baleba's signature won't come cheap. Brighton are reportedly demanding upwards of £100 million for their prized asset, valuing him in the same bracket as Moises Caicedo who fetched a hefty £115 million when he joined Chelsea earlier this year.
United's Firm Pursuit
The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell suggests that United wouldn't be pushing so hard for Baleba if they didn't feel confident about landing him. The club has already held discussions with both the player's representatives and intermediaries at Brighton's Amex Stadium.
Whitwell also points out that INEOS, Manchester United's owners, see this summer as the optimal time to secure Baleba's transfer before other clubs enter the race and potentially drive up the price in a bidding war. At present, United appear to be the only club seriously pursuing the Cameroonian talent.
Baleba Could Be the Final Piece
United's summer window has already seen several high-profile acquisitions.
Ruben Amorim now boasts a completely revamped attacking lineup with the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha.
With the frontline strengthened, focus can now shift to other areas needing bolstering ahead of Amorim’s first full season in charge.
