Premier League Preview: The fans’ view – Brighton
Brighton Bids for European Glory
Ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season, we spoke to fans of all 20 clubs to gauge their expectations and hopes. Here's what BHA Footy, a dedicated Brighton supporter group, had to say about their Seagulls.
Learning from Last Season's Rollercoaster
"Last season was a rollercoaster," admitted one fan. "The main issue was weak mentality and leadership, partly due to a young squad and the youngest manager in Premier League history." Despite setbacks like heavy losses against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, Brighton still managed an impressive 61 points, just five shy of Champions League qualification. "We need to close that gap this season," they stated.
Doubts About Hurzeler, Now Full Support
Initially skeptical about the appointment of Fabian Hurzeler, BHA Footy now fully backs their manager. "I wasn't always his biggest fan," confessed one supporter. "It was a huge gamble, and at times he seemed out of his depth in his first Premier League season." However, 61 points – exceeding Roberto De Zerbi's best finish – has earned him trust. "He's had a year to learn, he's got my full backing this season!"
The Brighton Way: Quality Incomings, Squad Solutions
Brighton's transfer window so far reflects their trademark approach. While Joao Pedro and Pervis Estupinan were lost, the club secured promising additions like Olivier Boscagli and Maxim De Cuyper alongside fresh talent like Kostoulas, Tzimas, and Watson. "We’ve solved our glaring squad issues," one fan noted, "and are building for the future at the same time – it's the Brighton way."
Rutter: A Record Signing Ready to Shine
With Joao Pedro gone, Georginio Rutter is expected to be Brighton's star man. The £40 million signing delivered 12 goals and assists last season but now needs to step up even further. "He has to be the main man this year," declared one fan.
Hinshelwood: The Underrated Gem
Jack Hinshelwood, a mere 20 years old, is another player drawing praise. "He doesn't get much recognition outside of Sussex," said one supporter, "but he deserves to be spoken about alongside Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton."
Revenge on Crystal Palace
The eagerly anticipated clash with Crystal Palace is always a highlight for Brighton fans. Last season, Palace dominated, winning the double and claiming the FA Cup crown. "I'm always looking forward to those games," admitted one fan. "They did the double on us last season... We definitely need to plot some revenge."
Secret Admiration for Palace Stars
Despite the rivalry, Brighton fans acknowledge the quality of Crystal Palace players.
"Forcing myself to hate them at times," confessed one supporter about his admiration for Palace's coach and players.
Top 7 Finish: The New Target
With a top 5 finish being Hurzeler's stated ambition, Brighton fans are aiming for an even higher placement. “It has to be Top 7,” declared one fan. “A massive shift is needed, but I think we can get 6th."
