CHAN 2024: CAF sanctions Zambia, Kenya and Morocco for disciplinary breaches
African Nations Championship: Fines Issued for Disciplinary Lapses
Three federations hit with penalties for breaches during group stage.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed down fines to Zambia, Kenya, and Morocco following disciplinary violations during the TotalEnergies CHAN 2024. The incidents occurred during the group stage matches held in Lusaka and Kasarani.
Zambia Faces $5,000 Penalty for Media Protocol Breach
The Zambian Football Federation was penalized $5,000 for failing to adhere to media protocol before their match against DR Congo. Head coach's absence from the mandatory pre-match press conference triggered the fine, payable within 60 days.
Kenya Faces Hefty Fine and Warning for Security Failures
The Kenyan federation received a much larger $50,000 fine for numerous security lapses during the match against Morocco. The disciplinary panel cited insufficient personnel inside Moi International Sports Centre and inadequate enforcement of road closures on match days as key issues. CAF issued a stern warning, stating that any repeat offenses could lead to the relocation of future matches.
Morocco Players Fined for Inappropriate Conduct
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation was fined $5,000 for the actions of certain players during the same match against Kenya. Half of this amount is suspended until the end of CHAN 2024, contingent upon no further violations occurring.
All three federations are required to settle their respective fines within the stipulated deadlines. These decisions underscore CAF's commitment to upholding disciplinary standards and ensuring compliance with regulations during its major competitions.
