Mabasa Shuns Tempting Offer from Maghreb de Fès to Stay with Orlando Pirates
Tshegofatso Mabasa (28) has turned down a lucrative offer from Moroccan club Maghreb de Fès, choosing instead to remain with his current team, Orlando Pirates. The South African forward was reportedly presented with a contract worth $25,000 per month over three years, with the option to move to Saudi or Qatari clubs after two years.
Spanish coach Pablo Franco Martín made a concerted effort to convince Mabasa, and negotiations had reportedly reached an advanced stage.
"The clubs had reached an agreement, but the player later changed his mind, saying after talks with his family he felt it wasn’t the right time to leave…" tweeted Ghanaian journalist and African transfers expert Micky Junior (@MickyJnr__).
Mabasa currently earns around $12,000 per month at Orlando Pirates.
Despite the financial incentives, Mabasa opted to stay put, telling his team he feels this is not the right time for a transfer and wants to contribute to the club's ambitions.
While disappointed, Maghreb de Fès has indicated they remain interested in Mabasa and are open to further negotiations should he change his mind.
