Aaron Boone ejected for MLB-leading 5th time as Yankees' struggles continue vs. Astros
Boone Ejected in Third Inning as Yankees Fall to Astros
The New York Yankees are in a slump, and manager Aaron Boone's frustration boiled over Sunday afternoon against the Houston Astros. Boone was ejected in the third inning after a heated exchange with home plate umpire Derek Thomas, marking his fifth ejection of the season – the most among all MLB managers.
Borderline Call Ignites Dispute
The incident began when Thomas called a low sinker to Ryan McMahon a strike. While the pitch was borderline according to strike-zone graphics, it appeared out of the zone. Boone argued vehemently from the dugout, prompting Thomas to call timeout and warn Boone, saying, "That's enough."
Boone then emerged from the dugout to confront Thomas directly, shouting, “You f***in’ need to fix it.” This outburst led to Boone’s ejection, effectively ending his involvement in the game.
Astros Extend Lead While Yankees Struggle
At that point, the Astros held a comfortable 2-0 lead thanks to Jose Altuve’s 21st home run of the season and an RBI double by Christian Walker. The Yankees were struggling offensively against Astros starter Jason Alexander, who didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning.
Despite Williams’ scoreless fifth inning with three strikeouts – his first outing in six without allowing a run – the Yankees trailed 4-1 after seven innings.
