Yankees' Max Fried Issues Wake-Up Call After Devin Williams' Blown Save vs. Rangers

Bombers Bleed Again: Another Late-Game Collapse Dooms Yankees

The New York Yankees are reeling, losing their fourth straight game in a frustrating defeat against the Texas Rangers. While the sting of a recent series sweep at the hands of the Marlins still lingers, this latest loss brings new questions about the team's ability to close out games.

Fried Faces the Music

"It's simple," Yankees starter Max Fried said after the game. "It's a results business. We just need to get it done and we haven't been getting it done. We gotta do something to be able to change that."

While the bullpen continues to bear the brunt of criticism, Fried wasn’t without his struggles, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with three walks in five innings.

A Crumbling Lead

The Yankees appeared to be turning things around early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. But Fried quickly surrendered four runs in the bottom of the frame, setting the stage for another dramatic back-and-forth. Giancarlo Stanton briefly put them ahead again with a two-run homer in the fourth, but the Rangers kept chipping away.

Texas Takes Control in Extra Innings

Down to their last two outs in the ninth, the Rangers called on Joc Pederson to pinch hit against Yankees closer Devin Williams. Pederson delivered a clutch solo home run, tying the game at 5-5. An inning later, Josh Jung launched a three-run homer off Jake Bird, giving Texas an 8-5 victory.

A Troubling Trend Emerges

FanGraphs reports that the Yankees have now blown more saves than any other team in the league over the last 14 days. This comes as they fall to 60-53, trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by 5.5 games in the American League standings.
