Mets Announce Pete Alonso News on Wednesday
Alonso Eyes Franchise Home Run Record, Earns Heart and Hustle Nomination
The New York Mets are locked in a tight race with the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East title, but there's reason to celebrate off the field. Star slugger Pete Alonso has been nominated for the 2025 Heart and Hustle Award.
Alonso's On-Field Dominance
Through 115 games this season, Alonso is hitting .264 with 25 home runs and 91 RBIs. He’s just two home runs shy of surpassing Darryl Strawberry for first place on the Mets' all-time list.
“It’d be special,” said Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, “I don’t want to put too much pressure on it… But I think it’d be special to do it here.”
Alonso's dedication extends beyond his hitting prowess.
A Player Dedicated to the Game
"He's watching film 24/7," Mendoza told Newsday's Laura Albanese, “We could be on a flight and you'd walk by his seat and he's got his iPad, his notebook, and he's watching the whole pitching staff from the team that we're about to face.”
The Heart and Hustle Award recognizes players who embody a true passion for the game. The Mets announced Alonso’s nomination on X, stating: “Congratulations to Pete Alonso on being named the Mets 2025 Heart and Hustle Award Winner! 🐻❄️🧡💙."
Alonso Joins Elite Company
Alonso will compete with other deserving nominees from around the league, including Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals and José Ramírez of the Cleveland Guardians.
