UN slams Israel's killing of Gaza journalists

Six Journalists Dead in Israeli Strike on Gaza Press Tent

UN condemns attack as 'grave breach' of international law.

The UN human rights agency has condemned Israel's targeted killing of six journalists in Gaza, calling it a "grave breach of international humanitarian law." The office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said on X that the Israeli military had targeted a tent housing five staff from Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera.

"The targeting of media professionals is a serious violation," Turk's office stated.

Among those killed was veteran Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh, who was known internationally for her coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“I am horrified by the killing of journalists in Gaza,” said Erik Mose, Chair of the UN Human Rights Council. "This is a blatant disregard for international law and a cowardly act that must be investigated thoroughly.”

The tent was also reportedly used as a temporary base for other media personnel.
