Moroccan university staff plan strike as new academic year nears

University Staff Set to Strike in Morocco: Academic Year at Risk

Union Blames Ministry for Stalling Negotiations Over Unified Statute

Moroccan university staff are poised to launch a wave of strikes and walkouts as the new academic year approaches. The Confederation of Democratic Trade Unions (CDT), the nation's most representative union for higher education staff, announced this escalation following its national council meeting.

The CDT accuses the Ministry of Higher Education of obstructing negotiations on a long-awaited unified statute for university staff. This delay, according to the union, has created an untenable situation forcing them to take action.

"Following our last meeting with the Ministry, we are deeply disappointed by their lack of progress in negotiating a unified statute," stated the CDT. "This inaction leaves us no choice but to escalate our actions."

The CDT's open-ended strike campaign threatens to disrupt the start of the academic year and could significantly impact students across Morocco.
