Moroccan local authorities crack down on billions in long-unpaid taxes and fees

Tax Collectors Close In: Billions Due from Moroccan Businesses

Local authorities across three major regions are taking aim at a mountain of unpaid taxes and fees, dating back over a decade and a half.

Widespread Recovery Effort

Municipal financial departments and tax collection units in Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, and Fes-Meknes are combing through records to track down the billions of dirhams owed. Sources say this large-scale campaign is unprecedented in its scope.

"This isn’t just about collecting money," said one official familiar with the initiative. "It's about ensuring fairness within our system and holding those who haven’t fulfilled their obligations accountable.”
