New Border Crossing To Link Morocco and Mauritania

Smara and Bir Moghrein set for easier connection

Mauritania is poised to open a new international border crossing, connecting the Moroccan city of Smara with the Mauritanian town of Bir Moghrein. The crossing will run through the Amgala region.

According to local reports, the Mauritanian Ministry of Equipment and Transportation has already given the green light for the project, and construction on the road is underway.

“The establishment of this new border crossing will undoubtedly facilitate trade and people-to-people exchanges between Morocco and Mauritania,” said an unnamed official from the Ministry of Equipment and Transportation.
