Giancarlo Stanton Makes Feelings Clear on Yankees’ Aggressive Trade Deadline

Yankees' Trade Deadline Blitz Lands Bednar, Doval, But Starting Rotation Woes Remain

New York City - The New York Yankees made a splash at the trade deadline Thursday afternoon, acquiring All-Star relievers David Bednar and Camilo Doval, along with Pittsburgh Pirates closer Jake Bird and Rays shortstop José Caballero.

As the team celebrated their 7-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays after a near three-hour rain delay, Giancarlo Stanton learned of the new additions. “Glad they’re with us now,” Stanton said, calling it “unreal” that the Yankees landed both Bednar and Doval, who have both earned All-Star nods. Caballero, meanwhile, is tied for the major league lead with 34 stolen bases.

"Got some great additions and they'll fit in nicely and help us make this push here," Stanton added.

Boosting the Bullpen, But Pitching Woes Persist

While social media users quickly lauded the Yankees' deadline haul, placing them among the "trade deadline winners," the team failed to address their starting rotation woes.
Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt are both out for the season with elbow injuries, leaving a gaping hole in the lineup. Cole is expected back early next season, while Schmidt will miss most of 2026.

Luis Gil's return to the rotation on Sunday offers a glimmer of hope, but the Yankees still lack an impactful third starter as they head into the final two months of the season. Carlos Rodón and Max Fried have struggled; Fried posted a disappointing 5.54 ERA in 26 July innings.

Marcus Stroman and Will Warren are expected to remain in the rotation, while Cam Schlittler may be moved to the bullpen.
