French firefighters optimistic after controlling vast wildfire

Scorching Summer: French Firefighters Gain Ground on Mediterranean Blaze

Controlled But Not Conquered:

French authorities are hopeful for clear skies to help extinguish the country's largest wildfire in at least 50 years, raging near the Mediterranean coast. Firefighters finally managed to bring the blaze under control after days of intense fighting. The fire ripped through a massive swathe of land in the Aude department, during the peak of the summer tourist season.

Looking Ahead:
“We’re counting on better weather conditions to completely put out the fire,” said an official from the French Interior Ministry.
