Former Patrick Mahomes teammate makes admission on Tom Brady
Is Patrick Mahomes the GOAT? Former Teammate Gives His Take
Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu weighs in on the ongoing debate surrounding the greatest quarterback of all time.
While acknowledging Patrick Mahomes' immense talent and three Super Bowl victories, Mathieu stops short of crowning him the GOAT.
"I would say he's a great quarterback, but greatest of all time, I think that's still reserved for Brady," Mathieu stated on Up & Adams. "And I think with Brady, that's just longevity. That's respect. That's just playing against this guy on the biggest stages. He was one of the most competitive, accurate. He just had a single mindset to win—win by any means necessary. He was always a challenge to go up against. Being the greatest of all time, I don't think it's like an eight, nine, 10-year thing."
Mathieu recognizes Mahomes' impressive accomplishments at just 29 years old, saying, "Patrick is definitely a close second, he's closing in". The debate stems from Tom Brady's unparalleled success with seven Super Bowl victories and two different franchises. Notably, Brady has defeated Mahomes twice in the postseason: once in the 2018 AFC Championship Game and again at Super Bowl LV.
Despite Mahomes' continued excellence, Mathieu acknowledges the significant challenge he faces to surpass Brady's legendary career. "But that's a big hill to climb in a league where teams improve every year."
