Fewer fires this year in Morocco thanks to cooler coastal temperatures, says experts

Cooler Coasts, Fewer Blazes: Morocco Sees Wildfire Decline

Morocco is experiencing a welcome drop in wildfires this year, offering relief to communities, especially in the southern regions. Mustapha Bendaoud, president of a local association in Guelmim-Oued Noun, says the trend is undeniable. "Even though we're facing more dryness," he explains, "...the coastal temperatures have been cooler."

Experts attribute the decline to unusually cool temperatures along Morocco's coast this summer. This has helped mitigate the risk of wildfires that often fueled by prolonged heat and dry conditions.
