## Safi Port Boasts Record Fish Catch, Value Soars

**Coastal and artisanal landings at the port of Safi experienced a significant surge in the first half of 2025.** Total landings reached 22,127 tonnes, marking a 24 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. This boost translates into a substantial rise in revenue, with the commercial value of catches jumping by 36 percent to 165.58 million dirhams, up from 121.79 million dirhams in 2024.

**Pelagic Fish Drive Growth:**

The surge in landings is largely attributed to the success of pelagic fish fishing. Landings increased by 24 percent to 20,934 tonnes, generating revenues of 77.7 million dirhams. Cephalopod catches also saw a substantial increase, rising 36 percent to 690 tonnes and generating 59.56 million dirhams. White fish landings remained steady at 488 tonnes, while crustacean catches dropped sharply by 73 percent to just 14 tonnes.

**National Trends:**

While Safi port celebrates its success, overall national artisanal and coastal fish landings experienced a decline of 17 percent year-on-year, reaching 391,353 tonnes.  Despite this drop, the total commercial value of these catches held steady at over 4.81 billion dirhams.

## Morocco Invests MAD 13 Billion in Cash Surpluses

**Treasury Department Leverages Repo Agreements and Overnight Blank Operations**

Morocco's Treasury and External Finance Department (DTFE) strategically deployed MAD 13.05 billion in cash surpluses through five distinct investment operations on Thursday.  

**Repo Agreements Fuel Investment:** 

The DTFE utilized repo agreements, a short-term borrowing arrangement, for the majority of these investments:

* **MAD 6 Billion Over 5 Days at 2.1%:** The largest placement involved a repo agreement for MAD 6 billion with a maturity period of five days and an interest rate of 2.1%.
* **MAD 2 Billion Over 7 Days at 2.27%:** A separate repo agreement secured MAD 2 billion over a seven-day term, carrying a slightly higher interest rate of 2.27%.
* **MAD 2.6 Billion Over 5 Days at 1.91%:**  Another repo agreement with a five-day maturity fetched MAD 2.6 billion at an attractive 1.91% interest rate.

**Short-Term Borrowing for Efficient Cash Management:**

Rounding out the DTFE's investment strategy, they placed:

* **MAD 1.3 Billion Over 1 Day at 1.75%:** A one-day repo agreement secured MAD 1.3 billion with a modest interest rate of 1.75%.
* **MAD 1.15 Billion Overnight Blank Operation at 2.25%:**  Finally, an overnight blank operation mobilized MAD 1.15 billion at an interest rate of 2.25%.


These strategic investments highlight the DTFE's commitment to efficiently managing Morocco's cash surpluses while generating returns in a fluctuating economic landscape.

**Casablanca's main stock index continues its upward trend.**

The Casablanca Stock Exchange closed Friday with strong gains, driven by a surge in the MASI. The flagship index rose 0.72%, closing at 19,404.8 points.  

Following closely behind was the MASI.20, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks. This index also climbed, increasing by 0.69% to reach 1,594.41 points.

The MASI ESG, focused on companies with top-tier environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings according to Moody’s ESG Solutions, experienced a more moderate gain, rising 0.38% to close at 1,334.36 points.
