**Blazes rage across Southern Europe as temperatures soar above 40°C.**


Two men are dead and thousands have been forced from their homes as wildfires fueled by a relentless heatwave rip through southern Europe.  Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and the Balkans all face extreme heat warnings, with temperatures expected to climb past 40°C.

“This is another sign of climate change,” warned one expert. “We are seeing longer, more intense heatwaves that are driving these devastating wildfires.”


The fires have already ravaged landscapes across the region, leaving behind charred ruins and forcing communities to evacuate.

## Europe Scorched: Over Half Under Drought's Grip

More than half of Europe and the Mediterranean's landmass, 52 percent, was gripped by drought in July, hitting a record high for the month since monitoring began in 2012.  This figure represents a stark 21-point jump above the average recorded between 2012 and 2024.

The devastating trend marks the fourth consecutive month of intensifying drought conditions across the region.
