Ibtissame "Betty" Lachgar has made a career out of challenging Morocco’s deeply entrenched social, religious, and legal norms. The psychologist, born in Rabat in August 1975, has repeatedly found herself at odds with authorities for her outspoken activism.  

**Pushing for Individual Liberties**

Lachgar is best known as co-founder of the Alternative Movement for Individual Liberties (MALI), a group advocating for greater freedom of expression and personal choice in Morocco.  MALI’s work has focused on issues such as women's rights, LGBTQ+ acceptance, and secularism – all topics considered highly sensitive within Moroccan society.

**Confrontation with Power**

Lachgar's activism has not come without consequences. She has faced multiple legal challenges, harassment, and even threats for her outspoken views. Her confrontational approach to the status quo has made her both a celebrated figure among progressives and a target of conservative forces within Morocco.

##  Kenyan National Arrested in Morocco on US Arms Trafficking Charges

**Casablanca, Morocco -** A Kenyan national was apprehended in Casablanca on April 8th at the request of US prosecutors. He faces accusations of participating in an international arms trafficking network supplying military-grade weapons to Mexican drug cartels, including the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel.  

### Extradition Proceedings Underway

The suspect is currently undergoing extradition procedures to face charges in the United States. The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York stated that further details would be released at a later date.
