Sabrina Ionescu Moves Closer to WNBA History on Sunday

Ionescu Shatters Liberty Rebounding Record

A Milestone in Brooklyn

The New York Liberty faced off against the Minnesota Lynx at Barclays Center Sunday. The rematch of the 2024 WNBA Finals saw Sabrina Ionescu rewrite history for the Liberty, but this time it wasn't a buzzer-beating three-pointer that made headlines.

It was her rebounding prowess.

Ionescu pulled down two boards early in the game, surpassing Kiah Stokes to become New York’s fourth all-time leading rebounder with 954 career rebounds. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is Ionescu's speed—she accomplished this feat in just 173 games, making her the fastest guard in WNBA history to reach this milestone.

“Sabrina Ionescu is New York’s fourth all-time leader in rebounds. Her first two boards tonight bring her career total to 954, surpassing Kiah Stokes on New York’s leaderboard. Ionescu is the fastest guard in WNBA history to reach this mark, doing so in 173 games.” — NYL Stats (@NYL_Stats) August 10, 2025

A Legacy Built on All-Around Excellence

While known for her scoring ability, averaging 19.9 points per game this season, Ionescu's well-rounded game shines through in other achievements. She holds the record for most games with at least 25 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in WNBA history.

Ionescu also boasts four career triple-doubles, placing her second all-time behind Alyssa Thomas (15). This impressive feat puts her ahead of Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and retired legend Candace Parker who each have three.

Despite Ionescu's historic night, the Minnesota Lynx secured a 83-71 victory, improving their league-leading record to 27-5.
