Match to pay $14M to the FTC due to false advertising and other deceptive practices
Match Group Fined $14 Million for Deceptive Subscription Practices
Company Faces Federal Action Over Alleged User Misleading
The dating giant Match Group has agreed to pay a $14 million fine to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) following allegations of deceptive practices related to its subscription services.
According to the FTC, Match Group misled users into purchasing subscriptions by employing tactics that obscured pricing information and made it difficult to cancel memberships. The FTC's complaint alleges that these actions violated consumer protection laws.
"Match Group used deceptive tactics to trick consumers into paying for unwanted subscriptions," said an FTC official. "This settlement should serve as a reminder to all companies that clear and transparent practices are essential when dealing with consumer data and finances."
Match Group has denied the allegations, stating they will cooperate with the FTC during the settlement process.
