Jets Tight End Mason Taylor Emerging as Unexpected Weapon for Fields

New York is seeing promising development from their rookie tight end.

The New York Jets entered the draft looking to bolster quarterback Justin Fields' arsenal, and they found a potential weapon in LSU tight end Mason Taylor. Known primarily for his blocking prowess, Taylor was brought in with the expectation that his receiving abilities could be developed into a reliable security blanket for Fields.

After making significant strides throughout OTAs, minicamp, and the first week of training camp, Taylor appears to be on the right track in his rookie offseason.

"I see growth and development out of Mason," said offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. "He's on the path to becoming what we expected and hope that he can be, and he's done a really nice job this camp, in the pass game and in the run game as well. So, daily improvement by him, and we're excited to see where that continues to go. Again, he and the quarterbacks they're developing a nice rapport, which is good."

Taylor's strong performance has been punctuated by notable moments, including reeling in a touchdown over the past couple of days. While it's still early in the preseason, Taylor's development suggests he could be fulfilling the Jets' expectations for him.

If he can maintain this momentum and translate it into regular season success, Taylor could become a valuable asset to both the run and pass game for the Jets and Fields.
