Lakers React to Luka Doncic’s Massive Change In Physical Appearance

Luka Doncic's Dramatic Transformation: From Weight Concerns to Cover Star

Star Guard Sheds Pounds, Shows Dedication After Playoff Elimination

Last season, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic faced relentless criticism about his weight. Now, the 26-year-old has responded with a dramatic physical transformation, silencing doubters and proving his commitment to excellence. Multiple reports indicate Doncic weighed as much as 270 pounds during his time in Dallas, leading some to speculate that the team traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick due to concerns about his conditioning.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported, “There had been significant frustration within the organization about Doncic's lack of discipline regarding his diet and conditioning, which team sources considered a major factor in his injury issues.” He added, “Though Doncic was relatively lean by his standards when he reported to camp, his weight ballooned to the high 260s early this season, sources said.”

Despite his weight not appearing to be as much of an issue in Los Angeles — Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game — the star point guard determined he wouldn't give anyone reason to mock his appearance again. The day after the Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Doncic texted his agent, ready to start his offseason conditioning program, according to Men’s Health magazine, which recently featured him on its cover.

Over the months since the Lakers' playoff exit, Doncic has shed a significant amount of weight thanks to an improved workout routine and strict diet. His transformation has been widely celebrated on social media, with the Lakers themselves applauding his hard work: "Locked in - Luka has been putting in the work all offseason 💪," they wrote on X.

Doncic's dedication has involved a low-sugar, gluten-free diet that includes consuming 250 grams or more of protein per day. He also started working out fasted and increased his regimen to two 90-minute sessions daily — the first fasted — incorporating strength, agility, and basketball drills.
