Gleyber Torres and Eugenio Suarez Agree, The Tigers Need to Acquire the Slugger

Tigers' Torres: "It Would Be Awesome" to Land Suárez

Detroit Could Make Deadline Season's Biggest Splash

The Detroit Tigers, who once dominated the AL Central in the first half of the season, have stumbled since the All-Star break and now find themselves struggling. But if one star player has his way, the front office will make a blockbuster trade before the deadline: bringing back Eugenio Suárez.

Second baseman Gleyber Torres, a teammate of Suárez on Team Venezuela during the World Baseball Classic, is enthusiastic about the prospect. “It’s going to be awesome,” he said Tuesday. “He treats people the right way. He's easy to talk to. He always wants to help the players. It would be a really, really good addition for us.”

Torres and Suárez share a strong bond forged during their time together on Team Venezuela. "I think he’s a better person than player,” Torres said. “He is a humble guy, an awesome person. I've known him for many years. Our relationship is really good."

Suárez Eyes Return to Detroit Roots

The sentiment isn't one-sided. Suárez himself has expressed his desire to return to Detroit, the team where he began his career in 2014. "To finish where everything started, it would be cool," he said the day before playing in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. "It would mean a lot to me."

Suárez acknowledges how much has changed since his initial stint with the Tigers. “Since I was there, it's been a lot different. It’s a new team with a lot of young guys and a lot of talent. I think they have a really good chance to make it more than the playoffs this year."

Trade Rumors Heat Up

After several trades for pitchers, a reunion between Suárez and the Tigers seems increasingly likely, especially considering their second baseman's eagerness for the deal. If it happens, Detroit could be poised for a deep playoff run.
