## Partey Denied Bail Amid Rape and Assault Charges

**Former Arsenal Star Faces Six Counts, Awaiting Trial at London's Old Bailey**


Thomas Partey, the 32-year-old Ghanaian footballer formerly of Arsenal, was granted conditional bail on Tuesday following a court appearance in London.  He faces six charges: five counts of rape against two women and one count of sexual assault against another woman. The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 while Partey played for the Gunners.

Partey was charged on July 4, just days after his contract with Arsenal expired. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court wearing a black zip-neck jumper, remaining silent as charges were read aloud. No pleas were entered.  

Jenny Wiltshire, Partey's lawyer, previously stated that he "denies all the charges against him" and welcomes "the opportunity to finally clear his name." 

His bail conditions include restrictions on contacting the three alleged victims and a requirement to notify authorities of any address changes or international travel plans.

Reports have linked Partey with a potential move to La Liga club Villarreal.  During the bail discussion, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring acknowledged that Partey "is no longer employed in this country and playing in Spain now."


Partey is scheduled for his next court appearance at London's Old Bailey on September 2.

**Arsenal Supporters Express Disappointment**

A spokesperson for Arsenal Supporters Against Sexual Violence expressed their "profound disappointment" with the club's handling of the situation.  Honor Barber, speaking outside the court, said, "We never wanted to be in a situation where the club that we love and the club that has values that we believe in was playing, week-in, week-out, a player who is now facing court appearances on six counts of sexual violence."

Barber highlighted their demands for the club to publish its sexual violence policies, suspend anyone under investigation for sexual offenses, and "properly support the survivors."

During his time at Arsenal, Partey played 167 games, scoring nine goals. He was a key player for the Gunners last season, appearing in 52 matches and scoring four goals.  He also boasts 51 appearances for the Ghanaian national team.




 An Arsenal spokesperson previously stated: "The  player's  contract ended on June  30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case."

## World Champions Skip 100m Finals at US Track and Field Championships

**Eugene, Oregon:** Reigning world champions Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson have opted to withdraw from the final rounds of the 100m at the US Track and Field Championships in Eugene. Both athletes already secured their spots for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after winning gold in Budapest earlier this year.

### Lyles Focuses on 200m,  Richardson Calls it a Season

Lyles, who holds Olympic gold in the 100m, decided to skip the semi-finals scheduled for Friday and will now concentrate on the 200m starting Sunday. Richardson, on the other hand, has chosen to withdraw from the entire US trials campaign after clocking 11.07 seconds in her 100m heat on Thursday.

Olympic 200m champion Gabby Thomas also decided to withdraw from Friday's 100m finals and will shift her focus to the 200m starting Sunday.


### Lyles Prioritizes Competition

Lyles clocked 10.05 seconds in the first round on Thursday, the fifth fastest qualifying time. He explained his decision, stating: "I need races -- everybody knows I started the season late due to injury.  I just need as many races as possible. After the 100 in London, me and my coach were like 'We might as well (race at trials)'. It's a free race, it's good competition."

### Richardson: Cruising Under the Radar 

Richardson expressed satisfaction with her 100m performance, highlighting the pressure release of already securing qualification for the World Championships. "USA is one of the hardest teams to make, so it definitely is a kind of a release of pressure knowing I have a bye," she told AFP.  "It feels really good to not have that pressure and still be able to go to Tokyo. Right now I'm cruising under the radar, but when it's time to hit -- it's gonna be a bang where y'all see my name," she added.

## Osaka Parts Ways with Mouratoglou, Eyes New Chapter with Wiktorowski

**Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka has announced a split with her coach Patrick Mouratoglou after less than a year together.** The four-time Grand Slam champion took to social media on Monday to express gratitude for the experience and wish Mouratoglou well. 

The parting comes just days before Osaka kicks off her campaign at the WTA Canadian Open in Montreal.  She scored a convincing first-round victory over Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault, winning 6-4, 6-2 in 76 minutes.

Osaka has begun working with Polish coach Tomasz Wiktorowski on a trial basis. The experienced mentor boasts an impressive resume, having previously coached Poland's Agnieszka Radwańska to the Wimbledon final and world number two ranking in 2012, as well as Iga Swiatek during her rise to Grand Slam dominance.

Wiktorowski guided Swiatek to four of her six career Grand Slam singles titles, including the most recent victory at Wimbledon earlier this month.

Ranked 49th, Osaka improved her record against players ranked outside the top 100 to an impressive 11-1.  

She will face a tough challenge in the second round against 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova. The two have split their four previous encounters, but Osaka holds a winning record in hardcourt matches between them.


### Reflecting on the Mouratoglou Era
Osaka began working with Mouratoglou, the former coach of Serena Williams, last September.  While they achieved some success, including reaching the Auckland final in January, Osaka was plagued by abdominal injuries that forced her retirements from several matches, including the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Mouratoglou expressed gratitude for his time with Osaka on Instagram, stating he "will always root for you."
